A Carbon Dioxide laser literally removes areas of damaged or wrinkled skin, revealing the perfect skin beneath. This is a very natural, subtle solution for aging.
Skin resurfacing is a procedure that employs a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin. Resurfacing is often used to minimize the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, but it is also very effective in treating facial scars, age spots or areas of uneven pigmentation.
Treatments can cover a whole area or focus on a specific region of skin and is often used in conjunction with other procedures like a facelift or eyelid surgery. Though new, laser resurfacing has been shown to produce less bleeding bruising or post-procedure discomfort than other resurfacing methods.
The procedure is relatively quick, and ranges in length anywhere from a few minutes 1 1/2 hours depending on the area being covered. Patients are given a topical anesthetic and may be given oral medication prior to the procedure to help them relax.
Good candidates for skin resurfacing are people with wrinkled or sun damaged skin on the face, Brown spots or blotchy skin coloring, Fine wrinkles on your upper eyelid, Acne or other facial scars, Certain skin growths, Vertical wrinkles around your mouth, Crows feet, lines around the eyes, Superficial scars.
Preparation & Recovery
Prior to this procedure you will receive detailed Instructions. Since this treatment can be painful your doctor may prescribe you a medication to help you relax. We recommend you come to the office one hour prior to your scheduled appointment so that you may take the medication and it can take effect for your treatment. Due to this, we require you have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
After the treatment your skin may feel sore and sunburned. A topical cream will be recommended to you to apply to your skin until it is healed. Do not expose your skin to any direct sunlight. We recommend wearing a hat while you are healing.
